Organizational Description
UBEC is a CEO-led, 501(c)(3) organization created by the American Gas Association and the Edison Electric Institute. UBEC is a national alliance of the nation's leading electric and natural gas utility companies committed to advancing workforce development as a business imperative.
Organizational Objectives
- Engage the utility industry broadly in strategic, unified and results-oriented efforts to ensure a skilled workforce to meet future industry needs through the development and operation of the Utility Workforce Planning Network.
- Create partnerships with community colleges and high schools designed to meet the skilled and craft workforce needs of the utility industry.
- Address the basic academic and employability skills gaps among high school students, most notably in mathematics, science and communications skills.
- Assist utility companies in defining an effective role in advancing workforce development objectives at the state and community levels.
- Engage utility companies and educators in the development of model curricula for utility training programs.
- Work with community-based education partnerships focused on advancing student achievement and workplace readiness.
- Engage utility companies in a model recruitment initiative to increase the number of qualified entry-level candidates for utility skilled and craft labor jobs.
- Provide evaluation of results, exchange best practices to attain industry objectives, and recommend initiatives that support industry workforce development initiatives.
