The U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration (ETA) provides federal funding, primarily to states, for employment and training services. The largest division of the Department, ETA provides oversight to the national workforce investment system, which includes over 1,900 One Stop Centers. The Business Relations Group (BRG) was created by ETA to help business and industry better access the services of the state and local workforce investment system and increase the capacity of the system to serve the needs of business. BRG manages the High Growth Job Training Initiative.
The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE) works to ensure that all Americans have the knowledge and technical skills necessary to succeed in postsecondary education, the workforce, and life. Through the Preparing America's Future initiative's comprehensive policies, programs and activities, OVAE is helping reform America's high schools, supporting America's community colleges and expanding America's adult education programs. OVAE has responsibility for the Department's mathematics and science education improvement initiatives.
The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is a federal-state partnership focused on improving the socioeconomic conditions in the Appalachian Region that includes counties in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. ARC's mission is to be an advocate for and partner with the people of Appalachia to create opportunities for self-sustaining economic development and improved quality of life. ARC's goals include improving the skills and knowledge of the region's residents to meet skilled job requirements, improving the capacity of the region's residents to work together for sustained economic progress and providing resources to help build dynamic and self-sustaining local economies. ARC works closely with employers, community colleges, high schools, and local workforce development agencies throughout its region.
The Tennessee Valley authority is the nation's largest public power company, with 33,000 megawatts of generating capacity. Through 158 locally owned distributors, TVA provides power to nearly 8.5 million residents in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
The Bonneville Power Administration is a federal agency under the U.S. Department of Energy. BPA serves the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana through operating an extensive electricity transmission system and marketing wholesale electrical power from federal dams, one non-federal nuclear plant and other non-federal generation facilities.
