The American Gas Association (A.G.A.) represents 192 local energy utility companies that deliver natural gas to more than 53 million homes, businesses and industries throughout the United States. A.G.A. member companies account for roughly 83 percent of all natural gas delivered by the nation's local natural gas distribution companies.
The American Public Gas Association (APGA) is a nonprofit trade organization representing America's publicly owned natural gas local distribution companies. APGA's membership encompasses most of America's public gas systems, numbering 607 members in 36 states. Today there are over 950 total public gas systems serving over 4.8 million customers.
The American Public Power Association (APPA) is the trade association for the nation's public power utilities. Public power is a collection of more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities serving over 43 million people or about 14 percent of the nation's electric consumers.
The Edison Electric Institute's (EEI) U.S. shareholder-owned electric companies serve more than 90 percent of the ultimate customers in the shareholder-owned segment of the industry and nearly 70 percent of all electric utility ultimate customers in the nation, and generate 70 percent of the electricity produced by U.S. electric utilities.
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) is the national service organization dedicated to representing the national interests of cooperative electric utilities and the consumers they serve. NRECA's more than 900 member cooperatives serve 37 million people in 47 states. Most of the 865 distribution systems are consumer-owned cooperatives; some are public power districts.
The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) has over 260 corporate members in 15 countries. They include companies that operate nuclear power plants, design and engineering firms, fuel suppliers and service companies, companies involved in nuclear medicine and nuclear industrial applications, radionuclide and radiopharmaceutical companies, universities and research laboratories, and labor unions.
